"Fire gives birth to ashes" -- found many places

I have heard or read the proverb "Fire gives birth to ashes" in different places. It means that great people may give birth to worthless children. I know it best in Amharic of Ethiopia. I have read that it is found in Uganda, but I don't know what language. I have als read that it is found in West Africa, but I don't know where. I would be grateful if people would tell me what other languages have a proverb similar to this.
