From another perspective, I wanted to break down the experience of “viewing the Message Board”. (Even though some users may be familiar with this process, new users have a completely different perspective)
-When one selects the link for the Message Board they are directed to the vBulletin page.
-When a user selects one of the choices under “Forum” (for example: African Proverbs, African Sayings, African Stories, General Chat), due to the lack of activity on the message board, the page displays
“There have been no posts in the last 1 days in this forum”
-And the message below states: “One must use the controls below to search for any older posts that may exist”
I know this is a control feature of vBulletin, but perhaps there is a way to set the defaults to show the threads “from the beginning” rather than "from the last 1 day".
Some users may only want to view “newer” messages, but for newer users, perhaps going to the Message Board and not immediately seeing any messages at all, may discourage them from engaging in the posting process. Older messages may serve as samples and models not only to exemplify the purpose of the Message Board but to also encourage new posts, topics, conversations, etc.
Just throwing this idea out there.
